Summary
Spawforths have secured the requisite planning permissions to facilitate redevelopment of the Former Prince of Wales Colliery site to accommodate up to 917 dwellings and 20,000 square metres of commercial floor space with associated community facilities to form a sustainable urban extension to the historic town of Pontefract.
The site, which enjoys a high profile location close to Junction 32 of the M62 Motorway and adjacent to Pontefract Park Racecourse, is comprised of two areas.
The first area is the former colliery pit yard site and was the subject of an Environmental Statement and outline planning application.
The second area is the 93 hectare former spoil heap sitewas also the subject of a separate Environmental Statement and a detailed planning application.
The approved proposals, which were informed by extensive public consultation and two design reviews, was designed to achieve a sustainable, inclusive and integrated community.
