Summary
The proposal was for a large urban extension to Tamworth comprising housing, public open space, a new relief road to the East of Tamworth and a small local centre.
Key challenges included designing a masterplan that allowed good pedestrian and cycle connections to the nearby town centre, while crossing the west coast main line and a second railway line that bordered the site.
Constructing an urban street that was overlooked and enclosed by new housing while also allowing a relatively large volume of through traffic also formed a key design constraint.
